What is Equip the Light?

We focus on the most important things in life:

1) Reconciliation to God— we share and promote the Good News about Jesus and the free gift of eternal life given to those who receive Him,

2) Discipleship — we equip believers to be disciples of Jesus, providing practical guidance from the Bible, so that they truly know Him and his Word and can step into the calling and destiny that God has planned for them, and,

3) Building Up Faith and Love — “equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ,” as we echo Jesus’s prayer, “that they [believers in Jesus] may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.” God is maturing the body of Christ to be unified in our faith and in the love of God so that we can fulfill the Great Commission.

(Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 4:11-16; John 17:20-23)

People use the saying “life is about the journey, not the destination.” But in truth, life is about the journey and the destination. Have you ever wondered if God exists and knows you? Do you know your destination when you die? Thankfully, you don’t have to wait until you die to be certain about life’s biggest questions. God loves you and has a great plan for your life.

  1. Sin separated us from God. The Bible says the when sin and death entered the world, our relationship with God was severed. “Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory,” meaning everyone has sinned. Losing His presence made us spiritually dead. A lost eternity lay ahead. But God already had a plan to restore you to Him.

  2. God sent his only son Jesus to earth, who was fully God and fully man, but chose to live his life as a human empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus never sinned. He lived a holy and blameless life—for you.

  3. God sent his only son Jesus to earth, who was fully God and fully man, but chose to live his life as a human empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus never sinned. He lived a holy and blameless life—for you.

  4. And seeing that you would one day be guilty of sin and that the punishment of sin is death, Jesus exchanged places with you. Jesus willingly laid down his life for you, and died as a perfect sacrifice for your sins, taking on his body all of your sin, guilt, shame, and punishment. He took your place, and in exchange, He gives you His righteousness—that is, if you will take it.

  5. Jesus died and was buried in a grave. But on the third day, God raised Jesus from the dead. Rising from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit, he overcame death, hell, and the grave for all humanity, so that those who believed and put their trust in Him, would have new life, that is, eternal life.

STEP 1: Join the Journey with Jesus

6. This new life is a spiritual life through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. God is a loving, forgiving God, who longs for you to come to Him so that you can receive His new life.

7. Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12) Jesus also said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me.” (John 14:6)

8. The Bible says that “whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But you must call on Jesus and say “Yes” to Him. Whoever “confesses with their mouth Jesus is Lord and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead will be saved.” And you’re a “whoever,” right? God wants you to know Him and fill you with His love. It’s not religion. It’s a relationship with the one true God and living the life you were created for.

STEP 2: Discipleship by Learning the Word and Following Jesus

Once you are reconciled to God, and have “joined his boat” so to speak, you begin an intentional lifelong journey of being a disciple of Jesus, where you ever-increasingly come to know and love Him and His Word until you arrive at your destination and it’s your time to meet Him face to face.

But it’s not just about you. Jesus wants you to join his rescue team. He gives you His light so that you can be a beacon of light to those lost in the darkness, so that they too may receive the free gift of eternal life and light.

Equip the Light is here to help people grow in their knowledge of the Bible and their relationship with God so that they can step into and fulfill the calling and purpose that God designed for their lives to accomplish through Him. Now is the time to get serious about God. He is coming soon.

Kids’ Discipleship

Equip the Light believes God loves all children and wants them to know Him and His Word personally. Discipleship does not start when a child reaches a certain age, but when they accept Jesus as their Savior.

Just like adults, kids must learn how to read, interpret, and apply the truths of the Bible to their lives.

Believers are to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV).

Kids need a foundation in God and His Word that will establish them for a God-filled life, full of God’s purposes, plans, and blessings.

Kids are disciples too.
